Okay, so I'm drawn to southern novels and southern writers. Yes, I've read them ALL and I do mean ALL: Gone With the Wind by Mitchell to A Tour of Southern Homes and Gardens by MccRae . . . . and that's just the "M's." So when BEES came out, I had to get it, albeit a little later than everyone else. This was an amazingly good read, written with excellent use of the language, which made it a double pleasure. - It's entertaining...
...but sort of mind numbing after a while. It's like reading a Lifetime movie. The story's a little contrived, you know what you're reading could never actually happen, the characters are all a little too picture perfect, and the drama is laid thickly. As long as that's all you expect, you'll enjoy this book.

- Who knew bees lived in secrecy?
There are many poignant moments that resonnate with the reader with this book. One standout however is when our heroine is forced to kneel in grits for a punishment, it was a defining moment. Not only for the character...but also for ourselves.
